Sound Pure's Take

It was a pair of CEMC6 pencil mics that let us know that John Peluso was on to something. They led us to contact Peluso Labs about adding their line of microphones at Sound Pure. After spending over two years testing and using more than 50 different brand's pairs [ nearly every pair currently on the market ] of small condenser microphones, we found that while many of the less expensive microphones did give surprising quality for the money, none of them approached the performance of the higher priced small condenser mics. Other than the Josephson C42, no other small condenser microphone besides the Peluso CEMC6 offers this level of performance and detail for under $1000 per pair.

The Peluso CEMC6 delivers natural, uncolored sound that is detailed with beautiful imagery. The CEMC6 excels on acoustic instruments, such as guitar, piano and percussion, and as an ORTF or X/Y pair for stereo recordings of ensembles, choirs and other live music events. Tapers, have we got a mic for you! Interchangeable and optional omni and hypercardioid capsules make these mics a killer deal if you want get into a serious small condenser mic for an affordable price.

All of our CEMC6 pairs are factory matched and come stock with cardioid capsules.

Optional capsules available:

Peluso CK-21 Wide/Sub Cardioid Microphone Capsule

Peluso CK-41 Super/Hyper Cardioid

The DRS-8 developed by Phoenix Audio UK is an 8 channel, Neve influenced, preamp designed with Class A discrete technology with both the professional and home studio artists in mind. Modeled after Phoenix's other famous preamps, the DRS-1 and DRS-2, the DRS8 uses a transformer less, Class A, discrete mic input which gives you a "valve-like" sound. The Phoenix Audio DRS-8 is extremely versatile complimenting an array of instruments including acoustic guitars, electric guitar, percussion instruments, vocals, horns, and keyboards. The cost-per-channel is also unbeatable for a preamp of this quality. Please contact our experts, here at SoundPure, with any questions 919.682.5552 or 888-528-9703.

The Sony C800g PAC is one of the most well-respected microphones in the world that is actually in current production... it is also one of the most expensive. John Peluso, of Peluso Microphone Labs created the VTB (Vacuum Tube Bottle), with the sound of the C800g in mind. While they are not exactly the same, they do have some striking similarities, and we wanted to put them to the challenge in this vocal microphone shootout and microphone comparison test. We tracked both mics through an Avalon AD2022 on an amazing vocalist, Jeanne Jolly. One thing is for sure, we liked the sound of the VTB a lot, particularly given its $1,500 price tag, but, there's clearly very little bad to be said about the great sound of the legendary Sony C800g that continues to be a favorite choice on pop and hip-hop vocal recordings, all over the world. We conducted the shootout blindly, so that you could really listen critically, decide what you like and don't like about each of them. We will gladly give you the results, so feel free to e-mail us, or call us toll-free at 888-528-9703.

The A Designs MP2A Dual Channel Vacuum Tube Microphone Preamplifier is a wonderfully detailed and open-sounding tube microphone preamp that has a very clean sound, with very subtle tube color, warmth, and three-dimensionality. It is not heavy, colored, or conjested in the mids and low-mids. This makes it a great choice on acoustic instruments including guitar, piano, orchestra, percussion- wherever you are looking for articulation, detail without the heavy, sluggish, and sometimes muddy response you sometimes get from vacuum tubes. This a seriously high-end piece, that should be given a serious listen.

From Peluso Microphones

The Peluso CEMC-6 is a solid-state small diaphragm condenser microphone. The CEMC-6 ships with a fixed cardioid pattern capsule with a 20-millimeter gold sputtered diaphragm. The capsule is easily swapped with additional capsules (not included) that provide omni-directional, cardioid, wide cardioid, or hyper-cardioid patterns. The CECM-6 features a 10 dB and 20dB pad switch and a two-position high pass filter with 75hz and 150hz settings. This is a very versatile microphone used in the studio for vocals and acoustic instruments to drum overheads. For the remote recorder this is a great mic for orchestras and live audience tapers. You'll always get great results from one of the most versatile best sounding small diaphragm mics on the market.

This kit features a pair of acoustically matched CEMC-6 microphones. We individually test and graph the frequency response for every microphone we make. Stereo matched pairs are hand selected to have identical frequency responses across the audible spectrum (±1dB).
