An outrageous modern sounding microphone modeled after the legendary Sony C800 - and at an incredible price!

Peluso Microphones

What We Think

We probably sound like a broken record, but seriously, John Peluso does it again! Peluso has added another must-have studio microphone to his amazing arsenal of microphones that represents his lifetime of microphone study. While this microphone was cosmetically inspired by the classic early German Bottle microphones, it is actually sonically akin to something much more modern: finally, we now have a modern-built, affordable microphone that imitates the sought-after sound of the extremely pricey Sony C800g! We love the C800, but it was time that someone did this, they've just become too expensive for most of us.

Since we sell both, we can say confidently that this microphone does the C800 justice- it is clean, airy, detailed, and bright, in many of the situations that we've tested it, it is virtually indistinguishable from the Sony C800 (See the Frequency Response Curve of one Mic Below). This is the first John Peluso-designed tube microphone modeled after a microphone that is still currently in production, and is in direct response to there every escalating price tag. Like the rest of the Peluso line, this is an excellent reproduction, and one that presents an incredible value to studio owners that want the Sound of the C800 without blowing their budgets. In response to the extremely high and rising prices of the Sony C800's, Peluso has built this incredible microphone at a price point that no one can argue with.

The VTB exhibits a very big high frequency emphasis to give the singer the "Air" on the top end. It is a mic designed primarily for vocals, but can be used in the studio for instruments where you are looking for a top end emphasis. There is a slight low end (very low end, below 80 hZ) bump, just like the Sony C800. This mic was inspired in look by the vintage bottles of yesterday, but inspired in sound to the newer ultra high end Sony C800!

Vocal Mic Shootout: Lauten Oceanus, Miktek CV4, CharterOak SA538, Peluso VTB

This blind Tube Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone shootout on Male Vocals features 4 great tube mics: the Peluso VTB, Miktek Cv4, CharterOak SA538, and the Lauten Oceanus. All four mics were run through our Vintech 573 Preamp Modules and Apogee Symphony Converter. First we'll hear the mics completely dry, and then each mic within a mix. If you would like the results of the shootout or all four full length hi-res audio files to compare for yourself, shoot us an email to mics(at)soundpure.com at anytime. Additionally all of these microphones are eligible for our free Try-Before-You-Buy demo program, so if you like what you hear and would like to experience one of these mics for yourself, give us a call at anytime for more information.    Huge thanks to our performers George and Danny of Jack the Radio.  Make sure to check them out at www.JacktheRadio.com!   If you have any questions about the four mics used, the shootout setup, or recording gear in general - we're here to help. Manufacturer's Description from Peluso

The physical design of this exciting new microphone is inspired by the classic German Bottle Microphones. The VTB uses innovative Peluso circuitry with an extremely low noise floor and classic tube sound. It has a more modern sound with strong and clean low end, smooth detailed mid-range, and lots of high-end air. The VTB is stunning on vocals and brings a beautiful high-end emphasis to other instruments.

The Peluso VTB is paired with the Peluso MX-56 power supply. The dual sided capsule in the VTB enables the power supply to feature 9 polar patterns in an array from omni-directional to cardioid to figure eight. The VTB also has an additional switch to disable the pattern control system. This allows the mic to run just a single diaphragm in the capsule, giving it a mode with extremely pure cardioid characteristics.

The VTB comes with a 7-conductor cable with standard 7-pin XLR connector.

Acoustically matched pairs available upon special request.

The microphone comes as a complete system including: VTB Microphone in a Wood Box, Power Supply, 7 Conductor Cable, and Shock Mount all packed in a Flight Case.
