Sound Pure's Take

Born out of decades of experience with vintage microphones, John Peluso brings us this recreation of a classic that is as faithful as it is functional.  The 22 251 was crafted with the old vintage Telefunken ELA M 251 in mind and presents itself with a similar boldness, top-end, and openness that lovers of the original have come to expect. The 22 251 bears a clean and pleasantly detailed top-end while simultaneously maintaining robust and full-sounding low/low-mids. The magic of the vintage 251s lie in their ability to accentuate those low-mids when utilizing the proximity effect. The 22 251 reproduces this magic with the added ability to further increase proximity effect by pushing the polar pattern into a more hyper-cardioid position. This microphone comes complete with 9 switchable polar patterns that range from Omni to Cardioid to Bi-Directional. Unlike the original which only has 3 polar patterns and a switch built directly into the body of the microphone itself, the 22 251 features its polar pattern switching on the power supply unit that comes with the microphone. With careful construction and attention to detail, this finely contrived ode to a classic is well worthy of becoming a staple in studios everywhere.

From Peluso Microphones

The Peluso 22 251 is styled after one of the world's rarest and most coveted microphones. It captures the nuances of the vintage "251" sound. The Peluso 22 251 employs a dual sided edge-terminated 34mm gold-coated Mylar capsule and a 6072A glass triode tube. The circuitry and transformer have been designed to match the vintage "251". Whether you're micing snare drums or steel guitars, violins or vocals, the 22 251 will provide great results.

The 22 251 is paired with the Peluso MX-56 power supply. The dual sided capsule in the 22 251 enables the power supply to feature 9 polar patterns in an array from omni-directional to cardioid to figure eight.

The 22 251 features our heavy-duty 8-pin screw on cable connector. The large diameter pins in the screw on connector give a tight and secure cable connection designed to perform for a lifetime of use.
