What We Think

Dallas Upton and SoundPure have been talking about this microphone for years, and we are so excited for its release! Vintech Audio, Dallas' other company, has been winding their own transformers and building vintage preamps for nearly 20 years, so when Dallas first approached us about microphones, we were excited, but skeptical.

Building microphones isn't as easy as building preamps, but Dallas left no stone unturned in building the Upton 251. Virtually every component is built in-house in Florida including both the output transformer and his very own CK12 style capsule. Dallas has rented, purchased, and borrowed an incredible number of 251s to make sure he gets it right. He built literally hundreds of capsules to perfect his design. He has taken several mics, with several different tunings, to about everyone in the studio business to make sure that his mic stands up with other Vintage 251Es.

That hard work, over 4 years in the making, has lead us to the Upton 251.

About Manufacturer

Upton microphones has been developing the manufacturing, assembly and tuning process of the famous AKG CK12 capsule for about the last three and a half years. They have also been developing manufacturing and assembly processes on the two most famous microphones that utilize this capsule, the AKG C12 and the Telefunken Ela M 251. They make all of their own parts for these microphones in their own machine shop, and wind their own transformers for the mics.
