If you are interested in hearing the results and/or getting ahold of the audio files from this shootout, give us a shout, we'd love to hear from you!

Manufacturer's Description from SoundToys

When we designed EchoBoy, we were looking for an echo that was warmer than existing delay plug-ins, yet not as dark as guitar pedal echoes.Well, it seems like we got this one just right. Since its release, EchoBoy has quickly become one of those 'must-have' plug-ins for ProTools and has become a permanent fixture on the aux faders of hundreds of top mixers and engineers.

Vintage Tone

Findanechotonethat fits your mix by choosing one of the 30 built-in echo styles modeled after our personal collection of vintage echoes. Our favorite is the warm sound of "Studio Tape", modeled after our ATR-102 half-inch two-track machine. You'll also get instant access to a whole range of classics, including EchoPlex, Space Echo, Memory Man, DM-2, and the TelRay oilcan delay. EchoBoy's chorus even emulates the CE-2 chorus, considered a holy grail of guitar chorus pedals. And yes, turn it up! EchoBoy is designed to be abused, just like real analog gear.

Designed for Musicians

No math needed to figure out delay times! Just dial in a musical note value and lock it to your song's tempo with the flip of a switch. Fine-tune the echoing rhythm with the Groove, Accent, and Feel controls. With these simple controls, dial in a musical sound that fits your style. EchoBoy is the only echo processor with true musical groove control.

Expressive Tools

EchoBoy is easy to use, but it’s also incredibly versatile and offers a wealth of advanced features for those who want to explore. Keep it simple with Single Echo mode, Switch to Dual Echo or Ping-Pong modes for powerful stereo echo effects, or dive deepwithEchoBoy’s powerful Rhythm mode and the Echo Style editor.

New Rhythms

If you’re bored with conventional delay effects, switch EchoBoy to Rhythm Echo mode for a new experience entirely. In this mode EchoBoy lets you select the rhythmic timing of up to 16 repeats. Rhythm Mode is like having a tape echo with up to 16 read heads (or “taps”).

You can add taps to the Rhythm Editor graph, control their timing and sculpt their loudness curve using the Shape control. Rhythm Echo mode is a unique take on delay effects that might just become your new secret weapon in the studio.

Deep Customization Options

Slide open the Style Editor to get access to a full set creative tools that let you create any delay sound you can dream up.

Choose the amount and type of analog saturation to get the vibe just right. Dial in some realistic tape wobble, or add reverb-style diffusion.

SoundToys

About Manufacturer

SoundToys is dedicated to bringing color, character, and creativity to the world of digital audio. We're truly fanatical about audio toys - both creating new ones and collecting old ones. Our toy collection runs from the 'classic' gear like the EQP-1, 1176, 1073, LA-2, 550a, ATR-102 (all the must-have numbers) to pedals and effects like Binson EchoRec, JetPhase, EP-1, Federal Compressors, FuzzFaces, Dim-D, Tri-Stereo Chorus, and on, and on.... All of this stuff is great inspiration for us, and helps us to know what 'good' sounds like. We'll try to get some pictures of our toy collection on-line, soon. In our 'past', we were responsible for designing some pretty insane effects gear - the H3000 (and all it's various colors) and the DSP4000, way back when we were designers at Eventide. We've somehow managed to morph ourselves from hardware designers to software designers. SoundToys lives in Burlington, the biggest "city" in Vermont. We've probably got more cows than people in Vermont, so calling it a city is a bit of a stretch. It's a very cool place to live, especially if you're into sailing, hiking, skiing, or snowboarding, or just like living in a place where rush hour traffic is half a dozen cars at a stop light. And, it IS the home of SoundToys, as well as Burton Snowboards, Ben and Jerry's ice cream, Phish, and the University of Vermont. You might think that Vermont's a strange place for a high-tech software company to live, maybe expecting stuff like granola and organic dairy products. Well, we feel like we fit right in, and 'organic' is definitely something we're into. We're determined to make digital feel and sound truly organic and warm, and we hope you feel the same way.
