Using only the finest hand-picked wood selections from eco-friendly resources, precision metal components, and a superior lacquering process, the SQ2 series brings the best of everything that Sonor has to offer.
This heavy Beech shell drum provides an unmistakably focused sound and an enormously wide tuning range that you've come to know and love from Sonor. The straight shell design adds a bit more focus and projection when compared to the vintage shell design, but it doesn't sacrifice sensitivity. Beech provides a little more low end than maple as well as a little something extra in the mid-frequency range that helps this tonewood stand apart. When combined with Sonor's bearing edge technology, precision lugs, and the Dual-Glide strainer system, you'll find the SQ2 series of snare drums to be a new source of musical inspiration.
The deep 12-ply shells are the core of the Signature sound. Due to this careful construction, every shell has a high flectional strength.
The construction of the Signature Series drum shells is different than that of conventional drums. The 12-ply shells are formed tension free from selected woods. Tension free means that the single plies for a solid sound unity, thus allowing the drum head an optimum of vibration.
The inner and outer plies of a drum also have an influence on the sound. Because of their special structure and their outstanding acoustic properties, Sonor chose African Bubinga (offered here) and Indonesian Makassar Ebony. Firmly joined to the basic plies, they contribute to the balanced sound of the Signature Series.
As one of the oldest drum companies in the world, Sonor brings quality craftsmanship the old fashioned way, by researching their instruments, and constructing them so that they are built to last. It is this pride and dedication that has led Sonor to become one of the premier names in percussion today. Sonor drums and hardware consistently receive top results in tests put on by leading drum and percussion publications. As a first in musical instruments, Sonor received the highest design award of Germany in 1994.
Known for their quality of sound as well as their build quality, Sonor is the choice for top-tier drummers such as Glenn Kotche of Wilco, Danny Carey of TOOL, Steve Smith of Journey, Benny Greb, Jojo Mayer of Nerve, Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree, Chris Coleman of Prince, Jack DeJohnette, and many more. Through all the achievements and endorsements, Sonor remains dedicated to consistently offering players with the best sound possible.
