What We Think

A tremendous Triolian!  This one is sure to gratify any player out there looking to get bare bones, gutsy National sound and playability at a great price.  The maple neck on this instrument compared to the mahogany-necked Duolian makes a marked difference tonally--there's a wonderful clarity and articulation that helps to sharpen up that warm bark you'd expect from a single cone resonator.

Manufacturer's Description from National

The original Triolian of 1928 signaled the debut of National’s unique single-cone guitar design. Our Triolian is a faithful reissue of the 1930s W Series classic, featuring a thin-gauge steel body or optional wood body. The guitar is highlighted by flat-cut f-holes, a formed back, and the traditional sieve-hole coverplate. And like the originals, the guitar is handpainted in a two-tone “walnut” brown-and-gold burst designed to mimic the look of wood way back when. But our Triolian is all new and boasts something the vintage versions lack — rock-solid reliability. The maple neck now includes an essential adjustable truss rod under the ivoroid-bound rosewood fretboard, which is detailed with inlaid mother-of-pearl position markers. You can select from either the early 12-fret, large-body or later 14-fret, smaller-body version. The classic slotted headstock features vintage-style engraved, open-gear tuners and the timeless “Triolian” shield decal. For more than 90 years, the Triolian has been the choice of country, folk, and blues musicians, and our reissue keeps the music flowing.
