This Gibson J-15 is everything a dread should be. Scalloped spruce bracing underneath that Sitka top just help it ring out loud and proud with all the projection and power you'd expect. The Walnut back and sides contribute to an airy and dry articulate sound, as if combining the nicest qualities of Maple and Mahogany while retaining it's own gorgeous and memorable aesthetic. Best friend for a strummer, but don't let that steer you away - everyone from the blue-grasser to more modern players will love the sound coming from this one.
SP Luthier Notes: Fret dress and setup
Every inch a Gibson, the J-15 is handcrafted from solid North American tone-woods, Sitka spruce top, walnut back and sides, and a maple neck. Built by our master-craftsmen using the same methods as all Gibson Acoustic models, the J-15 has a hand-fitted dovetail neck-to-body joint secured with hide glue to ensure resonance from strings to body.
Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
