What We Think

What an instrument!  The combination of the balance and articulation of the OM bodystyle and the expansive, roomfilling presence of a 12-fret alone makes for such a fantastic playing experience.  From the first note, your ears will perk up at the sound of something new.  While it is a long scale, the repositioning of the bridge to the widest part of the lower bout gives this guitar a hairtrigger response--lively is an understatement!  We went for a European spruce top on this one to draw further tonal nuance and complexity out of that gorgeous set of East Indian rosewood back/sides.

Bourgeois Acoustic Guitar Comparison: OMS Country Boy vs JOMT Vintage Quick n' Dirty

In this video, Sound Pure guitar specialist Barrett Brooks compares two stunning Bourgeois acoustics: the OMS Country Boy (Serial #7751) and the JOMT Vintage (Serial #7753).

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

We think of the OMS as the 12 fret version of the OM, as opposed to the other way around. It boasts all the tonal properties of our OM, with the added power and fullness of a 12 Fret. The 12 Fret design places the soundhole closer to the waist of the guitar and locates the bridge at the widest part of the lower bout, where it can most efficiently drive the top. This throwback design allows maximum power with minimum playing effort while affording a loose, open quality to the sound. And if you find yourself missing those extra two frets, take them back (plus another to spare) with an optional cutaway.

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
