What We Think

When we heard that Bourgeois had their newest OM-size model available for us, we jumped on it.  And we (you!) are all the luckier for it!  In short, Dana took his ever-popular "Jumbo" OM size (JOM) and reduced the body depth -just- enough to lend the instrument a bit more natural compression and balance.  The JOM is wonderfully rich and bassy, a great choice for players looking for dreadnought-esque response in a smaller package, but fingerstyle players looking for a more even response without losing that rich presence can have their cake and eat it, too, with this guitar!

Bourgeois Acoustic Guitar Comparison: OMS Country Boy vs JOMT Vintage Quick n' Dirty

In this video, Sound Pure guitar specialist Barrett Brooks compares two stunning Bourgeois acoustics: the OMS Country Boy (Serial #7751) and the JOMT Vintage (Serial #7753).

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

Adirondack spruce, also known as Eastern Red Spruce, was the legendary topwood used on most pre-war American-made guitars. Properly sawn, Adirondack is much stiffer than Sitka and Engelmann spruce, both along and across the grain. This allows us to make thinner, lighter tops, resulting in lightning-quick response and power to spare. Most guitar grade "Adirondack" spruce these days comes from our own backyard--the state of Maine, which still has large stands of original and second growth softwood forests.

To maintain a vintage look, we select only the highest grade of East Indian rosewood, perfectly matched and quartered with tight, straight grain and darker-than-average color.

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
