What We Think

Condition: Used, Very Good

As with all 'DB Signature' models, this OM was built start to finish by Dana himself and boy does it show. The harmonic complexity of the Madagascar back and sides is rich with overtones while maintaining a clear and woody fundamental tone. The beautifully bursted Adirondack top is expertly matched in tonal balance and looks. The trifecta of looks, feel, and tone straight from the hands of a true master!

SP Luthier Notes: Setup, neck adjustment, and bridge reglue

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

We started this model as a Dreadnought and then had a request for it in an OM shape.  It has since become a very popular model.  In appearance it is subtle, elegant and refined in tone it is everything and more that you can get from a Dana Bourgeois OM.  For the DB Signature model, designed a new rosette and herringbone purfling to compliment  his earlier design of the Dana Bourgeois backstrip.  He also decided to pick his top and back woods primarily for tone.  The Adirondack and Madagascar Rosewood he chose for his DB Signature Woods may not be the most pristine examples of those species.  But we can guarantee that they are some of the best sounding.

Here's what Dana says about  his experience with Madagascar :  "Madagascar rosewood will probably get you closest to the sound of Brazilian, and at a much lower price. Madagascar has much of the same rich overtone range as Brazilian, as well as a slightly "reverby" quality. It's a little heavier than Brazilian, so I have to be careful about selecting the right top and the right neck in order to keep the weight down and not adversly effect its response characteristics. "  Since Dana himself still picks every top, back and side for each guitar we build, this isn't a problem for us.

This guitar features  "Signature" Adirondack and "Signature" Madagascar RW.  The traditional  Squares & Diamonds inlay are made unique by cutting them from Certified Fossil Ivory. With finely flamed Curly Koa body binding, Gold Waverly tuners, Bone pins and a premium pickguard you will be hard pressed to find more value and beauty in a single guitar.

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
