What We Think

Condition: Used, Excellent (neck reset and refinished at Bourgeois October 2020)

This incredibly special guitar came to us in great, but played in conidtion. A guitar of this sort of deluxe quality deserved the deluxe treatment so we sent it back to our friends at Bourgeois to refinish and reset the neck and our in-house luthier dressed and replaced the first 7 frets. Adorned with buckets of Brazilian Rosewood and topped with Dana's perfectly selected Adirondack Spruce with Aged Tone treatment, this is just about the finest Slope D you could hope for. Complex and warm, perfect proportions and construction.

SP Luthier Notes: Setup, replaced first 7 frets, and fret dress

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

Versatile, with an open, singing voice.

Our slope shouldered dreadnought is only about 1/4" wider than a standard dreadnought, but what a difference! Voiced for a more open, though less driving, sound than the Dreadnought, the Slope D happily accommodates a wide variety of playing styles including country, blues, old timey, pop, contemporary, and--you name it. And if you're a fingerstyle player looking for a dreadnought-sized guitar that can handle fingerpicks or bare fingers as well as flatpicks, the Slope D is definitely your guitar! The Slope D is also available as a Slope D, 14 Fret, 25” short scale: Relaxed playability; warmer than the long scale version, without significant loss of volume.

Bourgeois Guitars

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
