The Vintech X73i (Neve 1073) Replica is compared side-by-side an original pair of Vintage Neve 1073's in a scientific mic preamp shootout at Sound Pure recording studios.  For the shootout, The Sound Pure Steinway Concert grand piano was recorded using a matched pair of Peluso P12 Tube microphones (Vintage Clones of the AKG C12 microphone) spaced across the piano's strings.  Each microphones' output was split, one to the Neve and one to the Vintech X73i.  Volume output at identical levels was tested by verifying virtually complete phase cancellation between the two signals when summed together (with one preamp set to phase reverse).  The Vintage clone Vintech X73i blew the minds of the engineers at Sound Pure studios, as the differences between the Vintech and the Neve were imperceptible.  After the listening, the Sound Pure engineers discuss their impressions of the sounds that they were hearing through the studio monitors in the Sound Pure control room.  Sound Pure is a proud seller of Vintech products, and can be reached to answer any questions about the mic pre shootout, or if you'd like the high res audio files for your own listening.  Sound Pure can be reached toll free at 888-528-9703.

A blind shootout video between a Rupert Neve Vintage 1073 mic preamp, and Vintech Audio's 573 clone - a 500-series style of module preamp. This is similar to our first shootout video featuring a Vintage Neve 1073 vs. Vintech x73i, this shootout demonstrates how to match the levels (using phase cancellation) during the setup of the shootout, and then conducting a shootout blindly. Instead of featuring Sound Pure's Steinway Concert Grand model B, we feature a short acoustic guitar passage. If you want to listen to the hi res audio files of this shootout, email us at preamps@soundpure.com and we will be happy to send them to you for a closer listen, we would be more than happy to send you the results as well. Perhaps it's best to request the results after you hear the high resolution files- the best way to compare to preamps is by comparing them blindly.

What we think:

Well, they've done it. With the same great sound of their near perfect replication of the Neve 1073 in the X73, Vintech has found a cost effective way to manufacture the switches. By using pc-mounted switches, they have dramatically reduced the cost of labor involved in assembling the unit without any real sonic sacrifice. Now, everyone can afford a pair, not just one!

Description:

Possibly the best value in the business! The X73i is a class A, all discrete, transformer balanced microphone preamplifier with equalizer both based on the classic Neve 1073 module. It is constructed utilizing modern manufacturing techniques which allow us to offer this product at an incredible value. Now practically anyone can record with the classic sound of vintage modules without having to deal with inflated vintage prices.

The X73i features the same class A mic pre as the X73 with all of the same eq parameters plus additional mid range frequencies, selectable input impedance, 1/4 inch D.I. on front panel, transformer balanced mic and line inputs, phase reverse, phantom power switch, eq switch, 70db of gain, quality Grayhill rotary switches, custom machined aluminum knobs, plus many other features.

We just returned from this year's AES convention where we conducted listening tests between our new X73i and vintage Neve 1073's we rented from Dreamhire in New York. Many folks did the comparison and practically all who did found the units to sound amazingly identical. Suggested retail price for this unit is only $1595.00 but for a limited time we are offering it at $1350.00 each.
