A blind shootout video between a Rupert Neve Vintage 1073 mic preamp, and Vintech Audio's 573 clone - a 500-series style of module preamp. This is similar to our first shootout video featuring a Vintage Neve 1073 vs. Vintech x73i, this shootout demonstrates how to match the levels (using phase cancellation) during the setup of the shootout, and then conducting a shootout blindly. Instead of featuring Sound Pure's Steinway Concert Grand model B, we feature a short acoustic guitar passage. If you want to listen to the hi res audio files of this shootout, email us at preamps@soundpure.com and we will be happy to send them to you for a closer listen, we would be more than happy to send you the results as well. Perhaps it's best to request the results after you hear the high resolution files- the best way to compare to preamps is by comparing them blindly.

This 4.5 from McPherson Guitars has gorgeous Pau Rosa back and sides with a Port Orford Cedar top. The Port Orford Cedar sounds similar to a warm spruce top, and the Pau Rosa, a hardwood from South America, is very dense and has a tone that falls between Rosewood and Ebony. The wood grain is absolutely stunning. This #1766 McPherson sounds very full and the mid-range really shines. Thanks to John Garris for his killer blue grass licks. The Torch Small Diaphragm Condenser Tube Mics from Lauten Audio have a rich and surprisingly dark tone. These incredibly unique microphones are extremely versatile and not like any other small diaphragm microphone we've heard. Try the ST221s on acoustic guitars, amps, strings, horns, toms, and more. These mics have a boosted low end to give it a richer sound. They also can handle high SPLs extremely well. Check out our other demo videos featuring the Torches on different applications, or other videos featuring the Clarion, Horizon, and Oceanus from Lauten Audio. Call our recording professionals for more information on these great microphones!

The D1 from Collings Guitars, a square-shouldered dreadnought acoustic guitar with a Select Sitka Spruce top and Honduran Mahogany back and sides, is an extremely popular steel string guitar body shape. Although this guitar is fantastic for vocal accompaniment, certain versions are also great for bluegrass flatpickers as well. Collings brings a lot of tonal warmth and clarity to this model guitar. Thanks to Keith Ganz for his outstanding performance. Check out Keith's website! Sound Pure has a vast collection of Collings Guitars. What we think:

With the popularity of the 500 series, Dallas is now offering his 1073 clones in the Lunchbox format.  He painstakingly designed the 573’s preamp to be as accurate to the original Neve 1073 as his the rest of his preamp line.  With a front panel DI, both line and mic level inputs, this is one of the more versatile 500 series modules on the market.  If you have an open spot on your rack, or are in need of a few more channels of 1073 preamps, don’t miss out on the Vintech 573!

Description:

The VA573 is a class A, all discrete, transformer balanced microphone preamplifier. It is based on the classic Neve 1073 module. The 573 also features an all new discrete high impedance D.I. that goes through the input transformer. The unit is also capable of accepting line level sources via a switch on the front panel.

This unit contains no IC's and no surface mount components. It is made at our shop here in the USA.
