The DRS-8 developed by Phoenix Audio UK is an 8 channel, Neve influenced, preamp designed with Class A discrete technology with both the professional and home studio artists in mind. Modeled after Phoenix's other famous preamps, the DRS-1 and DRS-2, the DRS8 uses a transformer less, Class A, discrete mic input which gives you a "valve-like" sound. The Phoenix Audio DRS-8 is extremely versatile complimenting an array of instruments including acoustic guitars, electric guitar, percussion instruments, vocals, horns, and keyboards. The cost-per-channel is also unbeatable for a preamp of this quality. Please contact our experts, here at SoundPure, with any questions 919.682.5552 or 888-528-9703.

On May 21, 2009 The Beast joined Grammy nominee Nnenna Freelon for a charity event in support of the Durham Arts Council at Sound Pure Studios. Following an interactive recording demonstration, The Beast capped off the evening with a performance for the attendees in which they premiered two original songs, including this one entitled Catalyst. This footage captures the intimate live show, recorded in one take and mixed at Sound Pure. The mics included the Peluso 22 251 on 6-time Grammy nominee Freelon's Vocals, Peluso VTB on MC Pierce Freelon of the Beast's Voice, a pair of Peluso P12 Microphones on the Steinway piano, Peluso 2247SE on Acoustic Bass, and Peluso CEMC6 Mics as Drum Overheads.

The Vintech X73i (Neve 1073) Replica is compared side-by-side an original pair of Vintage Neve 1073's in a scientific mic preamp shootout at Sound Pure recording studios. For the shootout, The Sound Pure Steinway Concert grand piano was recorded using a matched pair of Peluso P12 Tube microphones (Vintage Clones of the AKG C12 microphone) spaced across the piano's strings. Each microphones' output was split, one to the Neve and one to the Vintech X73i. Volume output at identical levels was tested by verifying virtually complete phase cancellation between the two signals when summed together (with one preamp set to phase reverse). The Vintage clone Vintech X73i blew the minds of the engineers at Sound Pure studios, as the differences between the Vintech and the Neve were imperceptible. After the listening, the Sound Pure engineers discuss their impressions of the sounds that they were hearing through the studio monitors in the Sound Pure control room. Sound Pure is a proud seller of Vintech products, and can be reached to answer any questions about the mic pre shootout, or if you'd like the high res audio files for your own listening. John Peluso hit the nail on the head with this thing, with everyone who's hearing them saying that it sounds "the way they used to." When John sent this microphone around to his closest studio friends that all owned original AKG C12's, the common theme has been, "The P12 sounds the way I remember my C12's sounding when they were at their best." Bright, present, and detailed highs that are warm, but not harsh characterize the sound of this thing. Unfortunately, many C12's that are floating around out there have capsules, tubes, and other electrical issues as relates to their age which either hinders the top end, muddies the detail, or simply makes them noisier than they should be in today's studio environment.
The P12, like the original is made to sound "pretty." Out of the box, no EQ, the microphones put a presence and shine on most vocals that not only pretty's them on their own, but also makes them sit well within the mix. The typical scooped midrange one comes to expect of a modern pop vocal recording of just about any kind persists with the P12 out of the box. If you are looking for that classic, sought after tube warmth, but designed with modern, ideal, hand selected and tuned components, built here in the United States, the Peluso mic line is the way to look. If you are looking for the mic in particular that will shine in your mix with little knob twiddling, this is your new baby.

The Peluso P-12 Tube Microphone is styled after AKG's legendary vintage "C12". Produced from 1953 to 1963, the "C12" was revered by engineers for its beautiful vocal quality. The P-12 employs a dual sided edge terminated 34mm gold-coated Mylar capsule and a 6072A glass triode tube. The circuitry and transformer have been designed to match the vintage "C12". Carefully selected components, thorough testing, and attention to detail all come together in this beautiful full-bodied classic tube microphone.
The P-12 is paired with the Peluso MX-56 power supply. The dual sided capsule in the P-12 enables the power supply to feature 9 polar patterns in an array from omni-directional to cardioid to figure eight.
