Overdrive is just the beginning for this pedal. The Atomic can bring enough energy to your tone to take it from simple overdrive to beyond brown. XTS has designed the Atomic to act and react like a great high-gain tube amplifier. The Atomic Overdrive has been optimized for world-class tone AND feel.
The Atomic has a discrete, multi-stage FET preamp that can develop a nearly unruly amount of gain. The cascading gain stages produce a dense, musical distortion and, when pushed, develop the same type of low-end thump and sagging feel as a particular brand of cranked, variac-ed EL34 classic.
This preamp is fed into an advanced EQ that puts tremendous control in the hands of the user. Shelving cut/boost Treble and Bass controls flank an innovative semi-parametric Mid EQ control. The exact tone you’re looking for is likely defined in the mid-range, and the Atomic Overdrive allows you to select one of three mid-range frequencies to either cut or boost. When boosting with the Mid Select switch in the Lo position, you can add girth without getting muddy. In the Hi position, you can add articulation to the upper mids, while boosting in the Mid position gives you a third option for dialing in the just what you're looking for. Additionally, you can cut at any of the same frequencies for a more swept sound that can lend itself to more aggressive musical genres. With the Atomic, you can bump and dip the mid-range with precision and do so with subtlety or an iron fist.
The Atomic Overdrive can take your clean amp to a whole new level. The Atomics sound is so beefy and mammoth that it can potentially eliminate the need for the second amp in your A/B setup. The advanced EQ lets you sculpt your tone to work with your guitar, your amp, and ultimately the ideal in your head. The Atomic Overdrive is both uncompromising and flexible. It delivers unadulterated high gain tones and allows you to tweak and tune as you develop the exact tone you're looking for.
