Condition: Used, Excellent. Prior to arriving with us, this instrument was brought back to Santa Cruz - where it was originally made - to have the top of the guitar refinished perfectly and the neck professionally and perfectly replaced to like-new, factory standards.
Folks, this is a height-of-heights instrument if ever there was one, fully representing what the wizards at Santa Cruz are capable of. Truly orchestral in the array of timbres available to the attentive player, the feeling of discovery and exploration is inescapable for anyone lucky enough to experience even a minute of playing. You will find this OOO contains the sensitivity and life-like responsiveness of a worldclass classical, combined with the sheer scope and majesty of something more akin to a grand piano than a OOO. A recordbreaker for excellence in more than one category for us: Brazilian Rosewood, OOO cutaway, 12 fret, and more! This instrument also has a Barbera Soloist pickup system - there are individual transducers under each string. There is not a better sounding pickup system you will ever find, and the supreme quality is evident unplugged or plugged-in.
SP Luthier Notes: The frets showed evidence of play wear. As such, the frets were leveled, recrowned, and polished back to a near mint state as was needed, allowing for excellent and smooth playability across the board. The guitar also required a full adjustment to the truss rod, nut, and bridge to be brought to a perfect level of playability, and the fretboard showed signs of unevenness which required the frets to be pulled and the board re-planed to level to promote a buttery smooth playing experience.

The OOO is the 12-fret predecessor of the OM. If access past the 12th fret is of no concern, the OOO adds some distinct advantages tonally and cosmetically. The extension of the body to the 12th fret adds additional airspace, which translates into increased sound volume and a more predominate bass in the EQ. The slotted peghead is a standard feature that adds classic styling. The peghead’s reduced mass accentuates the guitar’s open, airy ambiance, making it a fingerstyle favorite. You’ve seen the SCGC OOO on stage with Jeff Tweedy and Dave Matthews as a solid performing songwriter’s tool. It has also been heard on numerous recordings as a mainstay of pro session players. You will find an immediate purpose for the OOO and wonder why you didn’t have it in your arsenal all along.

By 1976 his focus was on the modern steel string guitar. The task of becoming a master at all aspects of guitar making is a lifelong pursuit, and Richard has patiently refined his craftsmanship and knowledge as his company has grown. It was and is Richard's intent to translate his skills and sensitivities as an individual builder to an exceptional team of craftspeople, each of whom could become an expert in their specialty. Richard's style of allowing his craftspeople to interpret his vision has propelled Santa Cruz Guitar Company to the forefront of modern guitar making. Each Santa Cruz guitar receives an extraordinary amount of individual attention due to our "bench style" of building, which necessitates that each worker not only perform his own specialty, but also review the work of those who have completed stages before him. Over half of all the instruments that we build are custom orders, reflecting to a high degree the personality and unique playing needs of the buyer. Every guitar top is graduated and tuned by hand to attain maximum resonance and sustain, ensuring a high level of consistency of sound within each standard model line as well as the ability for custom voicing. The balance, tone, volume, and response of a Santa Cruz guitar are established before the guitar is strung. By limiting the number of instruments built, we can practice a style of lutherie born from a genuine love of the guitar, as opposed to a production line approach that might favor greater numbers at the expense of our attention to detail. We believe that our approach ensures that every Santa Cruz guitar is exceptional. Our intent is to create a uniquely sophisticated instrument that will inspire and challenge its owner throughout a lifetime.
