The name Roll Music Studios is an indication of our business and aesthetic philosophy regarding music and the effective production of it. Roll Music stems of course from Rock and Roll Music, which has been fairly popular in our community for a number of years. The name has been shortened at times to simply Rock Music, and we believe that dropping the word Roll coincided with a conspicuous deviation from the rhythmic principles which gave early Rock & Roll music much of its power. This may be a somewhat unorthodox position for us to hold, since Rock Music and its various sub-sub-genres such as Hard Rock and Punk Rock are widely believed to be founded on the raw power element of the driving Rock & Roll rhythms. We believe the real power of Rock & Roll music came from a more subtle, subversive polyrhythm that revealed its true animalistic, sexual origin.* We therefore adopted the name Roll Music in an effort not to reject the pounding, thrusting rhythm of Rock Music, but to reaffirm our commitment to the fluttering, fleeting side rhythms present in true Rock & Roll music.
