One of Pearl Drums’ strength has long been their snare drums. With a variety of professional artists and hobbyists looking to achieve their ideal sound, Pearl has created a vast variety of drums meet the needs and demands of these players. And from time to time, they surprise us with something special.

The Pearl 5.5x14 Masters MCX Limited Edition is one of these special pieces. Starting with Pearl’s 6-ply foundation, this hybrid bubinga/maple wood shell snare drum has been built for the player as well as the collector. Richly-figured bubinga is utilized for the inner and outer plies giving this drum a crisp attack and a dry, focused sound, while maple inner plies help to keep the weight down and mellow the tone. Bubinga is a dense African hardwood that has been widely used for beautiful aesthetic, and for its musical response. Pearl complemented this limited-edition snare with nickel plated hardware and a set of MasterCast die-cast hoops for big rimshots and good snare sensitivity.

In the coming years, bubinga will become increasingly more difficult to acquire in the U.S. making this limited edition a gem in the making. If you're looking for a premium drum with cutting volume, the Pearl Masters MCX Limited Edition Maple/Bubinga snare drum should be worth considering.

With production at only 50 pieces worldwide, this extremely rare Limited Edition Snare features Pearls famed MCX 6-ply North American Maple shell encased in inner and outer layers of rich Bubinga veneer. Available exclusively at Pearl Snare Drum Center Dealers, its exotic look is matched only by its rich tonal vibrancy. Included Mastercast die-cast hoops and shell hardware are finished with lustrous Nickel plating, making this pristine, high-end collector's snare ideal for any professional playing situation

About Manufacturer

Pearl Corporation is organized and functions as a wholesale distributor of drums, percussion musical instruments and flutes for the United States. The majority of drums and related items are manufactured by Pearl Musical Instrument company and imported directly from company owned factories located in Taiwan and China.

Pearl has created several drum products, such as shells in the 1970s that were made of wood with a fiber-glass lining. There was also a shell made of a composite called "Phenolic." Additionally, Pearl combined roto-toms and these Phenolic shells to create the Vari-Pitch line of drums. Other early innovations included shells that were slightly undersized, so that the drum head would extend over the edges, much like a gong drum. Pearl manufactured seamless, extruded acrylic shells that were different from the tabbed-and-seamed Vistalite shells used by Ludwig. Pearl also developed the hinged tube tom-arm, a design widely copied by many other drum manufacturers.
