What We Think

The Miktek CV3 is one of those microphones that consistently punches above where people expect it to.

At first listen, what stands out is the size of the sound. The CV3 has that larger-than-life tube microphone character—full low end, smooth mids, and an airy top that feels open without getting harsh or hyped. It leans modern in terms of detail and clarity, but there’s still enough warmth and depth to give recordings a polished, finished feel right at the source.

What really makes the CV3 special, though, is how versatile it is. With nine selectable polar patterns, it adapts easily to different rooms, sources, and recording styles. Vocals are an obvious strength, but it’s equally comfortable on acoustic guitar, piano, drum overheads, room duties, and ensemble recordings. It’s the kind of mic you end up reaching for more often than expected simply because it works on so many things.

There’s also a refinement to the sound that’s impressive at this level. The top end stays smooth and controlled, the midrange feels balanced and present, and the low end has weight without becoming overly thick. It captures detail in a way that feels musical rather than clinical, which makes mixing easier down the line.

The custom transformer and tube design play a big role in that character. There’s a subtle harmonic richness and dimension that helps sources feel more “record-ready” without sounding overly colored or vintage-for-the-sake-of-vintage.

What we appreciate most about the CV3 is that it feels like a microphone built for actual sessions—not just spec sheets. It’s flexible, musical, and easy to trust on a wide range of sources.

For engineers looking for a versatile tube condenser with real depth, multiple pattern flexibility, and a polished modern sound, the Miktek CV3 remains one of the more underrated microphones in its class.

Manufacturer's Description from Miktek

The Miktek CV3 is a large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone offering nine pick-up patterns. The CV3’s sound is truly large and produces a musical response that will please artists, producers and most seasoned engineers alike. The bottom end is big, warm and tight, with mids that are present and even, along with a high frequency response that’s sweet and airy.

The CV3 utilizes the MK9 capsule developed by Miktek.

This unique capsule features dual 1-inch diaphragms manufactured using 5-micron Mylar with a 0.4-micron layer of evaporated gold, which is precisely tensioned, mounted to carefully-tuned backplates, and set back-to-back to create the final capsule. Tight tolerances and special attention to precise machining of the backplate produce a linear off-axis response that ensures the accuracy of the microphone.

The CV3’s head amplifier employs exotic discrete components and the output stage features a custom AMI transformer, which offers a classic sound and an extended low frequency response found in the earliest versions of the most famous vintage tube microphones. Together with a hand selected subminiature pentode vacuum tube, in which the high-voltage circuit has been uniquely implemented, the CV3 challenges the performance of the best-in-class industry standards without hesitation.

The Miktek CV3 is hand assembled, tested and packaged in Nashville, Tennessee, USA using components from the US, Europe and Asia. Each microphone includes its serialized frequency response graph created during final testing.

The CV3 is packaged with its swivel mount in a wooden box, which is set inside an aluminum case with the included power supply unit, 7-pin XLR cable and shock mount.
