What We Think

As a player whose comfort zone is fingerpicking a small body guitar, flatpicking a dreadnought feels (and often is) completely out of my wheelhouse...then I pulled this Goodall out of the case.  I can't imagine anything I'd rather do more!  I've been bouncing my way through "Wildwood Flower" over and over again!  Huge, expansive, detailed, shimmering--this guitar conjures in turns a vast field of bluegrass waving in the country air and the rolling magic of the open ocean.  And while your favorite bluegrass tunes will sound like you've never heard before (this ain't no D-28, now!) you'll also be thrilled to discover, over and over again, the seemingly endless possibilities this titan of a guitar offers to the imagination...I know I never imagined I'd want to pick up a flatpick for good!  It may very well be the most powerful instrument in the shop right now--call us before it rolls on out the door!

Dreadnought Comparison: Traditional (Martin) vs Modern (Goodall) Quick n' Dirty

In this video, Sound Pure Acoustic Guitar specialist Barrett Brooks compares 2 dreadnoughts: a traditional Martin 1969 D35 (Serial #242710), and a modern Goodall TRD (Serial #6462).

Manufacturer's Description from Goodall

"A flatpicker's delight, with dynamic power to spare"

The Traditional Dreadnought model features the popular Martin dreadnought shape. Its' tone is extremely powerful in the bass and midrange with an emphasis on a broad warmth without lacking treble. It has been designed especially with the flatpicker and the bluegrass player in mind.

All of our Traditional series models features a custom, partially scalloped bracing pattern which produces a bit more 'boominess' in the bass and midrange. The peghead and bridge have been redesigned for a more conservative visual appeal, with open gear Waverly tuning machines contributing to its charm. It is attractively arrayed with a herringbone marquetry rosette and top purfling, and a chevron marquetry backstrip.
