This is one of those guitars with the rare ability to completely halt activity in the office when it comes out--when we unboxed this one, every head turn to attention! And with the true one of a kind status this instrument carries, how could you not? We opted for Cherry back/sides and a Sitka top in the interest of a crisp response that still offers plenty of warmth and depth. Success! We've noticed that some Baritones can make us as players feel like we're trapped in that one, magical range in between a guitar and a bass--not so with this instrument. The dynamic range on this guitar will truly make you feel as though you're running up and down a Steinway Grand board. A lifechanger!
Yes, we make incredible sounding baritone models! It has such rich power and clear definition, one almost forgets the pitch is one whole step down after playing or listening awhile. This instrument is especially treasured by guitarists who love to play in drop tuning and slack-key styles.
The Baritone includes a neck which has 14 frets to the body and a 28" string scale. With regular medium gauge strings they can be tuned one whole step down to D-G-C-F-A-D and drop tuned from there. Add a capo at the 2nd fret and it's a regular guitar. With slightly heavier custom gauge strings it can be tuned as low as B to B.
James Goodall represents an artisan who is at the pinnacle of his profession. Superb craftsmanship, an exacting finesse for detail and wood choice, combined with robust, three dimensional sound character -- these are qualities which embody every James Goodall guitar.
Few who endeavor in musical instrument making are capable of consistently maintaining a high level of precision and excellence along with superior tonal character in every instrument. Discerning eyes and ears will find the substance of all these qualities in every James Goodall instrument.
