From Gibson Guitars
Few guitarists have had greater influence on today's guitar heroes than that gentle giant of the blues, the great B.B. King. Many years ago, B.B. watched a fight in a club where he was performing. The confrontation involved a lady named Lucille and ended up with the club in flames. As he raced for the door, guitar in hand, B.B. named his Gibson "Lucille" as a reminder of the occasion. For over 30 years, B.B. King and Lucille have been identified with Gibson's acclaimed ES Collection and today's Lucille is the ultimate refinement of B.B.'s original ES-355.
For solid sustain and a crisp look, Lucille's laminated maple top has no "f-holes". Like Gibson's legendary ES-335, the Lucille has a centerblock of solid maple bonded to the top and back with carefully carved spruce tone blocks. A special laminated maple neck and ebony fingerboard enhance her brilliant attack. The classic Gibson Varitone circuit progressively filters out low-mids and bass frequencies for a wide array of distinctive tonalities -- everything from sinewy, translucent chords to sweet, velvety leads.
Lucille's special stereo/mono circuit requires no special cords and her TP-6 tailpiece allows precise tuning. With her name scripted in mother-of-pearl on the headstock, gold-plated parts and an alluring ebony or cherry finish, it's plain to see that B.B. King's Lucille is an elegant performer of classic proportions.
