What We Think

Absolutely stunning in every regard. I've never seen Maple quite like this, and I've never heard a mandolin sound so clear, crisp, and defined. Every square centimeter has been refined and considered to perfection. Truly a work of art. You lose yourself in the back. There's a whole universe in there. Its tone has a similar quality. You'll hear things in melodies and chords you never thought possible. This was a custom piece. The Maple was the best piece available and the inlay lends a celtic charm.

Ellis F5 Custom Mandolin w/ Andy Wood - Quick n' Dirty

The Ellis F5 Custom Mandolin is truly one of a kind. The craftsmanship of the F5 matches its powerful, dry tone in stellar quality. The shamrock inlay on top serves to connect this work of art to its past in celtic traditions. Here, you'll see it come alive in the hands of Andy Wood, world-champion mandolin and guitar player (earning him the nickname "Shredneck"!). This mandolin is available for SoundPure’s "Try Before You Buy" program, so if you want to hear how it sounds in your studio, shoot us an email at Acoustics@SoundPure.com, or call us anytime at 919.682.5552. Thanks for watching!

Manufacturer's Description from Other

Tom Ellis of Ellis Mandolins, builds one of a kind, hand made mandolins in Austin, Texas.  With a master’s touch and an artist eye for detail, Tom uses his 35 years of experience in instrument building, to create heirloom quality works of art.

He has spent a great deal of time studying every aspect of the mandolin. It has only been through this research, that he has been able to acquire the best materials and crafts people to help with the process.

Ellis mandolins are built one-at-a-time.  Furthermore, Tom personally does all the hand carving, graduating, neck shaping and final setup. In modern times, it could be done differently. However, Tom insists on quality that he can be proud of for generations to come.
