Sound Pure's Take

Condition: Used, Excellent

I think I'm in love!  Here's how it happened: first, the looks.  This has got to be the best Antique finish I've seen on a new guitar, varnish no less.  The tuners, the inlay, the binding--the aesthetics of the guitar don't scream so much as growl vintage.  Next?  Playability.  For me, the combination of a 1 3/4" nut and a short scale length are the definition of comfortable playing.  And then I plugged it in.  Switching between neck, blend, and bridge positions is like a series of successive lessons in the history of American music--in hi-def!  Warm, full, and incredibly articulate, you can go from smokey-smooth jazz to downright nasty, gritty blues in a flash.  If you've been on the hunt for a vintage ES-335 or anything like it, well, Eastman has answered your question with this guitar and then some.

SP Luthier Notes: Minor Setup

From Eastman Guitars

Thinline

You can think of our semi-hollow thinlines as a guitarist’s Swiss Army knife. Their ability to handle nearly any genre makes them one of the most versatile tools in a player’s arsenal. Stay inspired by experimenting with different styles, or find a tone that perfectly suits your favorite genre — our thinlines do it all.

Deluxe Maple Laminate

To be great is to be misunderstood. We’re true believers in the de-stigmatization of laminate guitars. The tightly compressed laminate woods dampen down overtones created by solid woods, and lend themselves to perfect tone production in louder environments. Every one of our laminated thinlines has a center block that runs the length of the body right down the center, which aids in the suppression of feedback and reinforces the top.

Antique Varnish

At the source of every great feature are highly skilled craftspeople who sculpt, refine and perfect a vision. The Antique Varnish process is no exception. The same team behind our respected Violin Varnish Shop painstakingly hand apply and age the full series of Antique Varnish Archtops, Thinlines, Acoustics and Mandolins.  The resulting sound is pure and like no other.

About Eastman Guitars

When it comes to building a guitar, there is a big difference between assembly and artistry. If history has taught us anything, it is that there is no substitute for skilled craftsmanship. At Eastman, each instrument is given the attention to detail required to ensure that it reaches its maximum potential. Features such as hand-scalloped bracing and precision tap tuning are just two examples of the way we differentiate ourselves. Considering the outward beauty of an Eastman Guitar, it’s often easy to overlook the skill and artistry applied to the inside of such a fine instrument.
