Sound Pure's Take

I think I have a new favorite acoustic! Here's how it happened. Firstly, the sound - as soon as this instrument arrived new through our doors it was crisp, articulate, and loud. The sound is distinctly high fidelity, and there's a spectrum of noise from crystal clear highs to bold lows that aren't muddy in any way. It does what only the best acoustics can do, and I can hear every note in every chord - I'd say this is owed to the Adirondack top and the Ebony fingerboard, and the Rosewood back & sides. Secondly, there are the looks. This piece reminds me particularly of a vintage car, especially when looking at the inlays on the fingerboard and headstock. Smooth, luxurious and a peacock of a guitar if there ever was one.

I'm extremely picky about my acoustics. Don't wait on this one! It's incredible.

From Collings Guitars

The SJ is our version of what is commonly called a small Jumbo. Although the 16 inch lower bout is slightly wider than a dreadnought, and the sides almost as deep, the tight curve at the waist creates in a very different sound chamber. SJs, especially examples in maple, typically have a more pronounced midrange response when compared to a dreadnought, making them ideal candidates for a rounded cutaway. Players looking for the bass and overall volume of a large guitar, but with lots of treble clarity and midrange crunch, often find just what they need in the curvaceous SJ.
