Reimagining wartime slope-shoulder dreadnought voicing, the Collings CJ-45 T pairs a Sitka spruce soundboard with Honduran mahogany back and sides under a high-gloss finish. Weighing a remarkably light 3 lbs 12 oz, its 16" wide body utilizes a CJ-45 wartime scalloped X-brace pattern to yield a punchy, fundamental-rich tone across a 24 7/8" scale length. The Honduran mahogany neck features a full CJ-45 carve, a haircut peghead profile, and a 12" radius Indian rosewood fingerboard with MOP long dots across 19 frets. Appointed with ivoroid body binding, a cutthrough bone saddle, 1 3/4" bone nut, ebony straight bridge, and nickel Waverly tuners with ivoroid buttons, it includes a deluxe hardshell case.
From Collings Guitars
As with all of our Traditional Series guitars, when it came time to add a “T” designation to our slope shoulder offerings, we didn’t simply tweak the original; the Collings CJ-45 T is a fully-reimagined instrument that offers a distinct tonal variation when compared to our CJ and CJ35 models.
Strongly vintage-inspired, the body construction has been completely re-engineered, including new bracing carves and patterns. When combined with our latest T-Series neck design and unique CJ-45 neck profile, the result showcases a tone that is exceptionally dry and fundamental with the growl and thump sought in the great slope-shoulder dreads of the Wartime era.
CJ vs CJ Mh vs CJ35 vs CJ-45 T
While all CJ models share the same body dimensions, key differences are outlined below.
Our CJ is a standard build featuring East Indian rosewood back and sides with grained ivoroid binding on the body, fingerboard, and peghead, a belly bridge, and a 3-style backstrip.
Our CJ Mh is a standard build featuring Honduran mahogany back and sides with tortoise binding on the body, fingerboard, and peghead, a belly bridge, and a walnut backstrip.
Our CJ35 is vintage-inspired featuring Honduran mahogany back and sides with non-grained ivoroid body binding and no purfling, no binding on the fingerboard and peghead, a Wenge fingerboard and straight bridge, shorter 24 7/8″ scale length, and non-scalloped X-bracing with three tone bars.
Our CJ-45 T is our Traditional build with a fundamental-focused tone featuring Honduran mahogany back and sides, non-grained ivoroid body binding with no purfling, no binding on the fingerboard and peghead, a fully-exposed rosette, East Indian rosewood fingerboard with ebony straight bridge, shorter 24 7/8″ scale length, and Wartime scalloped X-bracing.
