When I say this is an exceptional Collings, that may seem redundant, but this Collings is special even considering its provenance. The elegant appointments strike you first, of course: a warm, tight three-tone sunburst finish; herringbone purfling over ivoroid body binding; ivoroid buttons on the brass tuning pegs, plain to see through the slotted headstock. Sonically, the combination of a short scale with vintage 12-fret design make for a deceptively powerful package despite its compact size. You get startling dreadnought-esque bass response, warm mids and shimmering treble, all thanks to picture-perfect Indian rosewood literally amplified by an exquisitely fast Adirondack spruce top. Considering all the particulars of this custom build, the full model designation reads like a suggested password (0002HASSSBT), but there's no amount of characters available to capture the joy held within this fine instrument.

The 12-fret 000 has the same general appearance as the Collings 00, but in a larger size with longer string scale. Although it's the same width and depth as the OM, the longer body typically produces more bass and overall volume. This makes the Collings 000 ideal for string-band purists or any guitarist who wants a maximum of power from an instrument of comfortable size with an elegant, old-time appearance.
