From the classic combination of deep, dark East Indian Rosewood and incomparable Adirondack spruce, to the small details like the herringbone top trim and Nick Waverly tuners, this Dread oozes heritage and authenticity. Flatpickers can expect to smile, laugh, and fall over backwards when this thing gets going. Lively is an understatement--this guitar has a soul of its own! Traditional fiddle lines and other classic bluegrass tunes dance and skip--it's a guitar that feels like it enjoys being played. If you're looking for a classic bluegrass instrument with all the trappings and feel of a beautifully preserved piece of vintage Americana, the Vintage D will do nothing short of inspire you--that goes for the price, too!
Our most popular model ever, the Vintage Dreadnought in Adirondack and Indian Rosewood.
Adirondack spruce, also known as Eastern Red Spruce, was the legendary top wood used on most pre-war American-made guitars. Properly sawn, Adirondack is much stiffer than Sitka and Engelmann spruce, both along and across the grain. This allows us to make thinner, lighter tops, resulting in lightning-quick response and power to spare. Most guitar grade "Adirondack" spruce these days comes from our own backyard--the state of Maine, which still has large stands of original and second growth softwood forests.
Except as noted, all Bourgeois models include the following features:
25.5" Scale Length, One piece Mahogany Neck, Bone Nut & Saddle, Ebony Fretboard & Bridge, High Gloss Body and Satin Neck Finish, Mother of Pearl Bourgeois headstock inlay, Bourgeois Premium Tortoiseshell style pickguard, Ivoroid Bridge and End Pins, Deluxe Hardshell Case and a Limited Lifetime Warranty. A variety of optional tonewoods, appointments, hardware and finishes are also available.
