What We Think

Condition: Used, Excellent

Absolute, tonal Nirvana. The Soloist design first built with Schoenberg & Martin guitars by Dana Bourgeois represents the pinnacle of prewar voicing, materials, and style. This guitar, simply put, is one of the very best sounding OM's that we've ever had the pleasure to lay hands or eyes on. Rich 3D sound, excellent sustain, glorious overtones and tight reponse to every approach. There's a reason they call these Soloist, the sound fills a room instantly and fully in a way that stopped many of us dead in our tracks. Surround yourself with the sound of this guitar and you'll surely hold onto it for a lifetime!

SP Luthier Notes: Setup

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

Dana Bourgeois says: “Many years ago, inspired by Eric Schoenberg, I built what I believe was the first OM having a style of cutaway that has since become something of a modern classic. Eric and I later founded a company to produce the new model, which we named "The Soloist", after an elegant fingerstyle guitar from the Victorian era. The Bourgeois Soloist is a true fingerstyle OM, featuring a European spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, a 2 5/16" ebony pyramid bridge, and the original Soloist style cutaway. Maintaining the spirit of the original Soloist, I combined the finest woods with the simplest of appointments, including Ziricote body bindings, simple wooden rosette, short pattern slotted squares and diamonds inlay, and a distinctive slotted triangle on the heel cap. While on the subject of decoration, I should note that the marquetry backstrip that I first designed for the Soloist (and now use on many of my guitars) has been as widely emulated, and is presently available through a number of lutherie suppliers. Far from being offended, I am delighted by the notion that other luthiers have mistaken this for vintage design!"

Bourgeois Guitars

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
