Just when we thought they couldn't get any cleaner, any more sophisticated, this little number shows up on our doorstep from Boucher. Ultimate indeed! The downright regal appointments on this instrument, from binding to toner to tuners, couldn't be a more fitting chorus to herald the Master Grade Adirondack top and Highly Flamed Walnut back/sides. The trademark balance and richness of Robin's OOOs is here in spades but the authoritative bass, full, compressed mids and delicate, clear-but-not-piercing highs caught us by surprise. Stunning!
The bracing pattern in our guitars is similar to the ones used by CF Martin Co. between the years 1931 and 1939. So, during the Pre war II or Golden era. We also call this way to brace “Forward Shifted X Bracing”.
It’s the first known system to obtain this legendary sound. The X formed by the two main brace is exceptionally advanced and spread towards the guitar sound hole, thus facilitating the propagation of vibrations, harmonics diffusion and low frequencies. However, it is almost imperative that the braces have to be made of Adirondack’s spruce or extraordinary hand-pick on others resinous species.
The wood used to manufacture the braces must have been hand-cut and sawed with attention to detail in order to preserve its extraordinary properties of flexibility, resiliency and stiffness. Otherwise, the soundboard could collapse through the years.
Founded in 2005, Boucher Guitars has become known as a leader in the creation of high-quality acoustic guitars. Our workshop is located in Quebec, Canada, in the heart of the Canadian Appalachian mountains, and we are lucky to be surrounded by North America’s largest Adirondack spruce forest. These majestic trees provide the wood for our guitars’ sound boards, and we are proud to be the only guitar maker working exclusively with Adirondack spruce for all of our sound boards. Every Boucher instrument is handcrafted by a team of experienced luthiers (guitar makers) and artisans. Our passion shows, in the exceptional sound quality and visual beauty of every instrument we produce…and we look forward to sharing our passion with you!
A few years back a wonderful man named Robin Boucher drove to Sound Pure studios all the way from Canada. In his back seat, nestled in lovely tweed cases, he had some of the finest acoustic guitars to ever cross our northern border. We became immediate friends and his work was mind-blowing. The clarity of the tone, the immaculate fit and finish, the effortless playability. To top it all off, Robin got his start as a WOOD DEALER. He happens to live in an Adirondack red spruce forest!
