What We Think

Condition: Used, Vintage, Good. This guitar is a 50-year old piece and has the associated wear, scuffs & dings that are ABSOLUTELY to be expected of an instrument this age. The guitar is in otherwise ideal fit & function thanks to the work of our luthier, even when accounting for its age.

SP Luthier Notes: Our luthier completed a full refret of this instrument, as is often necessary of older pieces to ensure proper intonation, fit & finish. This instrument also needed a cleaning of the electronics, and some dropfills on the neck, and lastly a general cleanup - all of which our luthier performed. No further work was required.

Some of the best vintage instruments that have been made can tell a story - and notably, bear many scars from years of faithful use. This is one of those instruments. Sure, it isn't minty clean but good guitars are like good restaurants: if it's been played a lot, it probably sounds better than a mint condition instrument. This instrument, especially after a much needed full refret plays so much better than it would have otherwise, and thanks to the worn in feel it's super comfortable! The twang and sizzle of the patent number pickups simply can't be beat, and this thing sounds absolutely cool. You don't see vintage Gibsons pop up a lot, and this is a really special one. Don't let looks fool you, this is a beast of a guitar!

About Manufacturer

Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
