Sound Pure's Take
This is definitely one killer little Box of Rock! Its distortion is as full and rich as the amp it was designed to emulate (see manufacturer description) and it takes absolutely no prisoners. You can easily set it to ring chords for days in true rock&roll style, or rip searing leads using it as your sole boost into the promise land. Its boost function is really useful as well. It can be run as a clean boost on its own, or in conjunction with the drive. I found it useful to set the drive volume to a dirty rhythm tone, and then use the boost to jump that sound up to a lead-level volume when the time comes. It responds well to rolling back a guitar's volume also. If you are looking for a versatile high-gain pedal, this one will be hard to beat!
From ZVex Effects Pedals
This Box of Rock™ simulates Zachary’s favorite amp turned up all the way, a 1966 Marshall® JTM45. The tone control adjusts brightness and there’s a high-headroom low-noise boost.
Uses 1 9V battery (preferably alkaline, but the unit is shipped with a carbon-zinc battery). The low current operation of this pedal’s circuit will give you a long battery life. Current draw is approximately 3mA. A DC power jack (standard Boss configuration with center negative) is provided on the side of the pedal. Use a high-quality 9V adaptor for all high-gain effects!
