Germanium-Silicon Fuzz Hybrid

The Fuzz Duo lets you switch between low-gain germanium & high-gain silicon transistors, or use a combination of both to create your own signature fuzz tone. The BIAS control lets you dial in that perfect sweet spot, and the FILTER control tames the high end fizziness that comes from using silicon transistors. The Fuzz Duo uses hand-selected germanium OC140 & silicon BC108 transistors, so this fuzz still works great when daisy-chained on a power supply.

UPDATE -- July 11, 2011 -- The Fuzz Duo has now been equipped with an internal DIP switch to control the pre-gain bass response. Now you can tighten up your lead tone to cut better through the mix!

Fuzz:  Controls the amount of gain in the circuit. Counterclockwise = cleaner tone, clockwise = more distortion/fuzz.

Level: Controls the overall output of the Fuzz Duo.

Bias:  Sets the voltage bias of the circuit. The bias affects both the tone and the nature of the fuzz distortion. Lower BIAS settings produce a dying-battery fuzz tone, and higher BIAS settings add headroom & smooth out the fuzz.

Filter:  Unique to the Fuzz Duo, the FILTER control is a variable treble cut. Fully clockwise, zero highs are cut. The amount of treble cut is not drastic as you roll it counterclockwise, as its primary goal is too kill feedback (especially of the silicon transistors) and smooth out the fuzz tone.

TR1:  Selects the transistor used in the input stage. Choose between the germanium OC140, or the silicon BC108.

TR2:  Selects the transistor used in the output stage. Choose between the germanium OC140, or the silicon BC108.

Internal Control:  The sole internal control in the Fuzz Duo controls the amount of negative FEEDBACK in the circuit. Adding feedback reduces overall gain, and reducing feedback increases gain. This simple control allows the circuit to be fine tuned for transistors with different HFE gain, letting every Fuzz Duo find that sweet spot tone that can be so elusive in other transistor-based fuzz pedals.
