The Tama SLP Fat Spruce snare drum is new for 2017 and is part of the growing Sound LabProject or SLP for short. The SLP series of drums brings the best of the best in terms of sound and building materials at very reasonable prices.
The Fat Spruce is destined to be a quick favorite for players that love vintage sounds. The spruce has a softer frequency response on the high side that will sit well in many playing applications. The die cast hoops provide a nice focus that we loved and the eight tube lug configuration delivers a full-bodied note. Rimshots are solid and backbeats are a thing of beauty with this drum. Another feature that we loved is the Linear Piston Strainer which is typically used on the Starclassic Bubinga snare drums. It's super smooth action coupled with the removable butt snare allows for changing heads without adjusting your snare wire settings.
The spruce's beautiful grain patterns coupled with its sonic characteristics give this drum remarkable sensitivity with profound depth whether you are playing dynamically or aggressive. Give the Tama SLP Fat Spruce a listen and we're sure you'll love it just as much as we did.
The snare drum is the keystone of any drummer's sound. At some point in the musical journey, the player will embark on a search for the perfect drum to enhance their sound. With that player in mind, Tama created the S.L.P. series.
This drum features an all Spruce 8 ply shell with a beautiful wood grain finish, and boasts a warm and resonant tone. The combination of the Spruce shell and TAMA's 8-lug die-cast hoops makes for a powerful yet warm rim shot sound.
