Sound Pure's Take

The 416 is our "go to" microphone for recording on screen dialogue for our videos due to it's excellent focus, isolation, and frequency response tailored for a clear and pronounced voice representation. We found aiming the 416 slightly lower than the speaker's mouth (more towards their chest) produces a full bodied and articulate dialogue recording, even when the mic is placed several feet away to remain out of the camera's line of sight.

In addition to on screen dialogue and voiceover recording, the 416 also makes for a fantastic room or mono overhead drum mic. Its super-cardioid polar pattern produces an incredibly tight and focused image of the kit and adds room "depth" without getting washy.
