Sound Pure's Take

Warm, Round and Fat, Sebatron has scored big with his new extremely impressive line of mic preamps. Generally speaking, if you want high-end, quality tube mic pre's, you've got to spend seriously big money. An all tube high end tube pre of comparable quality from just about any other manufacturer would cost double the price of this one. But here, you get in there at a fraction of the cost, with prices as low as $400 per channel (with the 4 channel, non VU version, the 4000e), and without any sacrifice in quality or features. Not only is the first rate buttery tube sound run by a high voltage tube plate, but each preamp has a number of features including some basic EQ/tone/color shaping settings, phantom power, pad, and front panel DI for each channel.

The Sebatron gear is absolutely top quality built, using what Sebatron likes to refer to as organic tube design. Every single part in each hand-built Sebatron unit is there for a reason, hand selected with the best possible sound quality in mind. The clarity and detail expected from high-dollar, high-end tube equipment is still present, and the wonderful warmth, roundness, richness, and body that the Sebatron sound is quickly becoming known for is paramount. Although one wouldn?t necessarily want to use exclusively tube mic pre's all day everyday on every single track in their studio, we think that it's safe to say, as far as adding quality in a value package, you won't be able to touch the price/performance of any of the Sebatron mic preamps for the money.

If you are looking to save even more money, but get all of the same amazing Sebatron quality, then also take a look at the lower priced Sebatron VMP2000 without the VU meters . Or, for one of the best deals on the market today (on a per channel basis), take look at the Sebatron 4-channel VMP-4000e . And, for one more link to a Sebatron product, the Thorax all tube channel strip is a loaded up, extremely powerful channel strip including a very warm EQ, and awesome compressor. There is no other way to get your studio in to a high-end studio tube microphone preamplifier in this price range. We recommend taking advantage of this amazing pricing today, before Sebastian changes his mind- they are already having a hard enough time building enough of these things for our demand, and we've been keeping this little secret quiet until we had the chance to really put these through our paces! We were more than just impressed, and you will be too. Everyone needs a big, buttery, high end tube preamp in their studio, now's your chance at a price we never thought possible.

The Sebatron VMP-series Tube microphone preamps are used to track acoustic guitars in a recording studio with a variety of microphones including Earthworks, Mojave, and Telefunken Microphones. While we use the Sebatron VMP4000e preamp, it utilized the identical tube pre circuitry as in the 2000e and 2000e VU mic preamps. Each preamp's impressive warmth is attainable without a loss in detail typical of most preamps. Additionally the preamp features some excellent EQ functionality, and the creative ability to drive the unit in different ways to move from transparent more subtle tube coloration to much greater saturation and color (by engaging the pad circuit which exists prior to the tube gain stage). We use and love the Sebatron mic preamps in the Sound Pure recording studios, and are glad to talk to you about all of our experiences. http://www.soundpure.com/p/earthworks...The Earthworks PM40 Piano Mic system is the easiest way to achieve a world class piano recording whether or not the piano lid is up or down. Whether you are recording a Yamaha C7, or a Steinway Grand Piano, or any other grand piano, it will provide you the sound and tone of the instrument that you put in front of it with dazzling accuracy. It has incredible detail, and exhibits no proximity effect, even when positioned directly over the strings, regardless of the positioning of the lid. You can have outstanding isolation from other instruments with the lid down, even in live concert piano performance, but the Earthworks PianoMic system can also deliver audiophile quality piano recordings in studios, with the lid up. Because of the neutral and natural sound of these microphones they also take wonderfully well to any kind of preamp coloration, EQ, compression, or Reverb that you want to throw at it. The impressive Mojave MA201 FET records some impressive acoustic guitar. It has a full, rich, and balanced character that shined through on both a clean Millennia mic preamp, as well as a more colored tube preamp from Sebatron. The MA-201 from Mojave Audio doesn't have the harshness associated with many of the large diaphragm mics currently being built, and proves here to provide detail, without that brassy top end, and instead has a full, rich and well-balanced character. Sound Pure carries the full line of Mojave microphones in addition to owning and using them in our own high end professional recording studios, so please don't hesitate to send us any question that you might have about them.

The Mojave Audio MA101 FET Condenser Microphone track some impressive acoustic guitar tones in the Sound Pure Recording Studios. These little microphone from Mojave audio have the capsules from their tube microphone series, and the electronics from the 201 FET, making it an impressive "best of both worlds" hybrid microphone design. It has a nice punchy sound to it, which makes it a great choice for acoustic guitars, particularly when you want them to cut through the mix. It also has a lot of headroom (140dB in fact) once you engage the 15dB internal pad, which is easily accessible. It is quite a value given that it includes a nice case, mount, and two capsules (both omni and cardioid). We were impressed with the results, even when running it through a tube preamp. Please give us a call to discuss your next microphone upgrade, we are here for you at Sound Pure, and can be reached toll free 888-528-9703.

From Sebatron

The VMP-4000e is identical in features and circuit topology to the VMP-1000e and VMP-2000e, including the microphone input transformer, passive switchable EQ and a carefully chosen 12AT7 valve per channel that provides all of the gain. The solid state, discrete Class A output buffer stage has far greater detail, transient response and bandwidth than an output transformer and is more robust and powerful than a chip-based output stage. The unit is housed in a solid 2U steel rack case. All Sebatron products are designed with reliability and long life in mind. Each VMP channel consists of -: a transformer balanced microphone input for reliability, ease of use and sound quality -: individual phantom power with LED indication -: DI for direct instrument or line input -: passive switchable EQ for the extreme high and low registers - very practical when tracking -: a 12AT7 vacuum tube run at a proper high tension providing all of the active gain -: switchable PAD control which varies negative feedback around the valve, controlling colour -: solid state, discrete Class A output stage, powered by a high voltage rail for superior headroom and transient response -: switchable output phase -: XLR and TRS balanced outputs
