Sound Pure's Take

Condition: Used, Good

The H model is -the- balance between power and playability.  On the one hand you've got a deeper body, just over 25" in scale length, and excellent quality Indian Rosewood on the back and sides.  On the other hand you've got the curvature and bout widths of a smaller-bodied guitar, a roomy 1 3/4" nut width (great upgrade choice on this particular model), and an equally excellent piece of the ever-versatile Sitka spruce on top.  The result?  Small-bodied sweetness with near-Dreadnought presence and depth of tone.  Bluesy thumpability with enough harmonic complexity to merge seamlessly from Blind Blake to Bach.  As for the "used" aspect of this particular piece, all I'm seeing in terms of cosmetics is a nitro lacquer that's settling beautifully in the grain...the best sign of aging there is!  From where I'm sitting, there's just nothing that comes close to doing so much so well--get it in your hands today and try to find something this guitar can't do!

From Santa Cruz Guitars

Long an honored presence in the Santa Cruz collection, the 1930’s inspired H Model joined our catalog in 1977 during the formative years of the company. This was a challenging era to introduce a non-Dreadnought, non-12-fret guitar. Opting to be favored by natural selection, SCGC presented the now standard 14 frets to the body configuration to an audience that valued the additional 2-fret access on such a classic, vintage body.

Most players are astonished when they play the Santa Cruz H for the first time. Its volume is startling for a small-bodied guitar. The body’s depth allows for a much larger presence than would be expected in an instrument of its size. The guitar’s balanced hand voicing gives the H a precise response at every fretboard position. This model is highly recommended for those who prefer the sweetness and ease of playing a small guitar but require more comfort and volume.
