Manufacturer's Description from Radial

  • Stereo direct box for high output sources
  • Ultra linear response from 10Hz to 40kHz
  • Virtually zero phase & harmonic distortion
  • Eliminates hum and buzz from ground loops
The Radial JDI Duplex is a full-feature, stereo passive direct box designed to enhance connectivity, reduce noise, and simplify the hectic life of the touring professional, broadcast engineer or AV integrator. It is plug-and-play easy to use while delivering the utmost sonic quality.

Like the Radial JDI, the Duplex employs two high-performance 'made in the USA' audio transformers and the same pristine audio signal path that has made the JDI the industry standard. It features exceptional signal handling with virtually zero phase shift or harmonic distortion, while remaining linear across the entire audio spectrum. When driven to extremes, the natural transformer saturation and resulting warm Bessel curve makes the Radial Duplex the perfect choice for smoothing out highly dynamic instruments such as digital pianos and electronic drums that can sound harsh when pushed. Transformer isolation provides the additional benefit of eliminating troublesome ground loops that can cause hum and buzz in the audio system or interfere with video displays.

This 'Swiss Army knife' DI is equipped with ¼' connectors for instruments, RCA connectors for unbalanced -10dB consumer electronics and XLR inputs for +4dB professional line sources. Radial's innovative book-end design provides protective zones on the front and rear to keep connectors and switches out of harm's way. The 14 gauge I-beam inner frame adds tremendous rigidity to eliminate outside stresses that could torque the PC board and cause premature solder joint and trace failure. The steel outer shell couples with the transformer's mu-metal shield to protect against stray magnetic fields from power transformers or lighting systems that could cause interference. Finally, a full-bottom no-slip pad works double-duty by providing both mechanical and electrical isolation. The Radial Duplex delivers outstanding connectivity, superlative audio and quiet dependable performance.

The Duplex… the world's finest passive stereo direct box.

About Manufacturer

Radial Engineering is a manufacturer and distributor of professional audio equipment, building tools for the working audio and audio-video professional. Radial is located on the Fraser River, just outside Vancouver, British Columbia in the municipality of Port Coquitlam. The company began operations in the fall of 1991 as the Canadian distributor of Mogami cable and Jensen Audio Transformers. In 1992, it became a limited corporation under the JP Cabletek Electronics Ltd. banner. The Radial name was first used on house branded cables and snake systems. The Radial name and logo represents a cross section of quad cable; Radial being round. In 1996 the Radial JDI direct box was launched. This led the way to the Radial JDV and today, over 50 electronic products are now being produced under the Radial, Tonebone and Forest Audio brands. In 2001, the Primacoustic brand was launched to address the growing demand for acoustic products for the burgeoning home recording market and in 2006, the company officially changed its name to Radial Engineering Ltd.

Specifications

Radial JDI Duplex is a high performance dual-channel direct box that is designed to provide maximum flexibility for the audio engineer in the most demanding applications. It features two custom-made nickel laminated transformers for optimal signal transfer with absolute minimal distortion of all types. Analysis reveals an exceptionally linear response from 10Hz to 40kHz with virtually zero phase shift at all critical frequencies. The excellent performance is further substantiated with a Fourier transform that produces desirable even order harmonic generation and a warm Bessel curve when pushed hard. With its heavy-duty steel shell and internal I-beam construction, the Duplex is designed to work dependably for years in the harshest of touring environments. A full complement of connectors make the Duplex a God-send when faced with the never-ending challenges of professional touring, broadcast and AV integration.
