Manufacturer's Description from Radial

The direct box that does it all

The JDV makes no compromises on available features or audio quality, opting instead to provide anything you could ever ask of a high-performance DI box. Designed for studio recording or pro-touring applications, the JDV provides exceptional headroom with massive 30-Volt internal rails, resulting in virtually zero distortion and producing an incredibly transparent and natural representation of your instrument. It has two inputs which can be individually selected or blended together and phase-aligned, with the ability to handle condenser mic's, piezo transducers, and the outputs of effectively any instrument. The balanced output can be set to mic or line-level, allowing you to bypass an additional preamp and connect directly to a recording interface for pristine studio recordings.

Features

Front Panel:

  • Level A - Fully variable potentiometer, used to set the input sensitivity for channel-A
  • Drag Control - Switches input impedance from 10 meg Ohm for piezos to DRAG control for magnetic pickups
  • 48V - LED indicator lets you know 48V phantom power is activated
  • HPF - Eliminates excessive low frequency mud that can cause resonance and acoustic feedback on stage
  • A/B - Channel selector switch, toggles between A and B inputs with LED status indicators
  • Load - Switches input impedance from 10 meg Ohm for piezo transducers to 220k Ohm for magnetic pickups
  • SIG/OVD - LEDs show signal presence and if you are exceeding the maximum input level
  • Phazer - Adjusts the relative phase between channel A and B to time align fundamentals for a more natural sound

Rear Panel:

  • Power - Locking 4-pin XLR power connection for external power supply
  • Output - Balanced XLR connects to the PA and recording system
  • 180º - Inverts the signal polarity by flipping pin-2 and pin-3 on the XLR output
  • Ground Lift - Disconnects pin-1 at the XLR out. Helps reduce noise caused by ground loops
  • Isolation - Introduces an isolation transformer into the XLR signal path to help eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops
  • +20dB - Extra high output or direct recording
  • Tuner Out - Hi-Z always-on 1/4" output used to connect tuner
  • Thru - Unbalanced 1/4" thru-put used to feed the stage amp
  • 1/4" Inputs - Unbalanced 1/4" input jacks used to connect instruments to the JDV
  • JR-2 - Connection point for the optional JR-2 remote footswitch
  • Mic In - Balanced 1/4" TRS input for condensor or dynamic microphone

Side Panel:

  • Mic 48V Phantom - Turns on the 48V phantom power at the MIC IN
  • Blend A+B in - Combines input-A with input-B and lets you mix the two sources using the front panel level controls
  • Aux Out/Direct - Lets you introduce an isolation transformer into the stage amp output signal path to reduce hum and buzz caused by ground loops

About Manufacturer

Radial Engineering is a manufacturer and distributor of professional audio equipment, building tools for the working audio and audio-video professional. Radial is located on the Fraser River, just outside Vancouver, British Columbia in the municipality of Port Coquitlam. The company began operations in the fall of 1991 as the Canadian distributor of Mogami cable and Jensen Audio Transformers. In 1992, it became a limited corporation under the JP Cabletek Electronics Ltd. banner. The Radial name was first used on house branded cables and snake systems. The Radial name and logo represents a cross section of quad cable; Radial being round. In 1996 the Radial JDI direct box was launched. This led the way to the Radial JDV and today, over 50 electronic products are now being produced under the Radial, Tonebone and Forest Audio brands. In 2001, the Primacoustic brand was launched to address the growing demand for acoustic products for the burgeoning home recording market and in 2006, the company officially changed its name to Radial Engineering Ltd.
