What We Think

"John’s newest addition continues to blow us away with each new shootout! Capturing the essence of how an 87 would sound fresh out of the box decades ago, the solid state P87 provides the glorious mid-range focus the original became famous for, with a beautiful blend of smoothness and detail for a non-tube LDC mic. I love it on near any style of vocal - it’s clear, warm, and still accurate to how the vocalist naturally sounds, but with a larger-than-life enhancement. It also ends up being my preference for acoustic instruments, where I find its mid-range boost adds a definition and focus I don’t hear in other similarly priced microphones. I’m still amazed Peluso was able to create such a fantastic sounding and well built microphone at this price point!"

John Peluso has threatened us with a U87 clone for years, and we are so excited to finally say it is here! With an introductory price around $1000.00, get in line as these are going to fly off the shelves!

If you’ve been following our videos, you’ve probably seen our shootout videos between Peluso’s clones and the vintage mics they’re designed off of. If so, you know just how accurate they are in reproducing the inspiring sounds that made us fall in love with the vintage classics in the first place. We’ve actually had a P87 here at the shop for a few weeks now, and in the limited time we’ve had to use it, it’s perfectly clear that the P87 follows suite with the rest of his clones in offering a sound that accurately captures the vibe, soul, and responsiveness of the original U87. We of course will be providing a shootout video as we do with all Peluso clones, but don’t hesitate to call and set up a demo to experience this incredible new mic in your own studio!

Manufacturer's Description from Peluso

Styled after the legendary classic 1970's version of Neumann's U-87 is the Peluso P-87. We have captured the sound and magic of the most popular microphone ever made by emulating the vintage design characteristics. This center terminated large diaphragm 48v phantom powered microphone features transformer output. The P-87 employs three heavy-duty toggle switches on the microphone body. Polar Patterns are controlled on the front of the mic with a three-position switch for cardioid, omni, and figure of 8 patterns. On the rear of the mic, a low frequency roll-off switch decreases the low-end gain, countering the proximity effect of close range vocals. A -10dB pad switch for lower gain can be used with close range brass, guitar cabinets, drums or other high level sources.

Acoustically matched pairs available upon special request.

Microphone kit comes as a complete system including: P-87 Microphone in velvet bag, Shock Mount, Hard Mount, Foam Wind Screen, all packed in a Flight Case.
