Omar Hakim has been one of the unspoken drum legends for over 30 years now. He's been the backbeat for David Bowie, Madonna, Sting, and Weather Report to name a few. Given the diversity of musical styles he's played, Omar began the quest to create a unique sound that could span the sonic spectrum. He arrived at a 13" diameter snare drum that is 5" deep with Mahogany as the tonewood. The shell size can easily get into the piccolo territory with ease while the Mahogany can deliver low-end and warmth in the lower tunings. This drum is here on consignment and will ship with a Protection Racket case. The drum was recently re-headed with an Evans Power Center Reverse Dot, a Snare Side 300, and a fresh set of Puresound wires.
The Pearl Omar Hakim Snare Drum has the unique voice that has been referred to as the "power piccolo" sound. It has a 5" x 13" African mahogany drum shell, 2.3mm shell counter hoops, Pearl's SR-015 Gladstone-style vertical pull throw-off, and precision-fit stainless steel tension rods with solid brass swivel nuts for super-precise tuning. This snare snare delivers a perfect blend of sonic power, projection, cutting attack, and tonal color.
Pearl Corporation is organized and functions as a wholesale distributor of drums, percussion musical instruments and flutes for the United States. The majority of drums and related items are manufactured by Pearl Musical Instrument company and imported directly from company owned factories located in Taiwan and China.
Pearl has created several drum products, such as shells in the 1970s that were made of wood with a fiber-glass lining. There was also a shell made of a composite called "Phenolic." Additionally, Pearl combined roto-toms and these Phenolic shells to create the Vari-Pitch line of drums. Other early innovations included shells that were slightly undersized, so that the drum head would extend over the edges, much like a gong drum. Pearl manufactured seamless, extruded acrylic shells that were different from the tabbed-and-seamed Vistalite shells used by Ludwig. Pearl also developed the hinged tube tom-arm, a design widely copied by many other drum manufacturers.
