Sound Pure's Take

This Pavan is a fine specimen from the Spanish guitar making tradition. The cedar top is warm, producing a bright midrange that can only be described as golden, and the East Indian rosewood back and sides create a nice sizzle of overtones. This is a great intermediate level nylon at a fantastic price!

These handmade Spanish classical guitars have a sound quality and playability that are remarkable in this price range. The soundboards of the Pavan TP-30 are built in the custom shop where a few experienced guitar makers specialize in hand crafting each soundboard. They hand thickness each top and carve the top braces to build a responsive instrument. The TP-30 model is available with a solid cedar or spruce top. I supply the spruce to Spain from my own personal inventory of wood. The TP-30 has solid East Indian rosewood sides and back, ebony fretboard, reinforced neck, bone nut and saddle, and a 650mm string scale.

When good classical guitar players come to my shop to try out the Spanish guitars they are very impressed with the TP-20 model guitars but they end up purchasing the TP-30 guitar. The TP-30 model does not sound a lot better then the TP-20 model. But the TP-30’s do sound a little better and that slightly better sound makes a big difference to the experienced player.

Presently I do not offer classical guitars priced higher than the TP-30 models. This is because I have not found factory made instruments at a higher price range that sound better. I have seen numerous classical acoustic guitars at two and three times the price that do not sound as good as the Pavan TP-30.
