What We Think

In a world mostly full of  ported cabinet designs, the Neumann kh310's dramatically stand out from the crowd. These are a sealed cabinet design and you can tell the first moment you hear them push air. There is a tightness and a focus to these monitors that was so clear and forward that it was a bit shocking initially. There's a lot more to a studio monitor design than just whether it's ported or sealed, but these stand far out from the crowds and I attribute a significant portion of that to their cabinet design. there's a crispness and punch all the way to the very bottom end of their range - you will have no question as to how hard your kick drum hits, and how well it's blending with the bass guitar. That same focus is just as apparent through the midrange, where you'll hear exactly how the vocal sits against the guitars, or whether it's struggling for room in the crowd, and the top end of these monitors is revealing without feeling abrasive or fatiguing. These monitors are not forgiving and friendly, but they WILL tell you exactly what's going on within your mix and they translate remarkably well to other systems.

Manufacturer's Description from Neumann

The KH 310 three-way active tri-amplified monitor features a Mathematically Modeled Dispersion™ Waveguide (MMD™), flexible acoustical controls, various input options and an extensive range of mounting hardware. This allows the loudspeaker to be used in diverse acoustical conditions, with any source equipment and in a wide variety of physical locations. The KH 310 represents the latest in acoustic and electronic simulation and measurement technologies to ensure the most accurate sound reproduction possible.

The KH 310 is designed for use as a near-field monitor, as a front loudspeaker in mid-sized multi-channel systems, or as a rear loudspeaker in a larger multi-channel system. It can be used in project, music, broadcast centers, OB vans, and post production studios for tracking, mixing, and mastering.
