For many years, Jarrah has been one of our favorite tone wood imports from Australia. Its richness and density voice unlike any other timber and exudes a natural beauty commensurate to its sound.
Block drums bring a new level of intensity to the drum set. They have been a favorite go-to drum for many studio and touring professionals. Thicker shells and harder tonewoods can create some great sonic results for both studio and live players. This 8x14 Jarrah Block shell has no reinforcing rings, and at 1/2" thick, it produces an incredibly focused note with a wide tuning range. Jarrah is a fairly dense wood and its unassuming looks are sure to turn your ears the moment you hit it. 45-degree bearing edges and shallow snare beds are sure to delight, as we found this drum performed well throughout multiple tunings with great articulation and sensitivity. Combined with 8 tube lugs and 2.3mm flanged hoops, we found this drum made playing backbeats and rimshots pure audible bliss.
If you find yourself searching for a new sound outside of the normal parameters, give Jarrah some serious consideration. The harder density of this timber creates fantastic tones that are perfect for live or studio applications.
