Master builder Paul Warry and founder of Metro Drum Company has been creating some of Australia's finest handcrafted drums for nearly twenty years. This Metro 7x13 Spotted Gum ply snare drum features a rare Black Spot Jarrah veneer.
Spotted Gum is an incredible tonewood for players that prefer mid to mid-high frequency drums. The 13" shell diameter works extremely well with this in delivering a crisp and articulate drum throughout the multiple tuning ranges that we tested. Complemented with 8 heavy-duty tube lugs, tuning is easy and flexible without overloading the shell with the unnecessary weight that can potentially rob you of sustain. Press rolls are sensitive and wide open from the center to the edges making this diverse drum really fun to play. No detail was spared as you will find premium gaskets underneath the lugs to protect the shell, ABS washers on the tension rods to protect your hoops, a Dunnett multi-step throw-off for easy snare sensitivity settings, and a glass-like gloss finish to complete the package.
Whether you play this drum as a primary snare drum or as an auxiliary snare drum, the Spotted Gum excels with tone and definition. We loved this drum in the medium and high tunings but we wouldn't discount the drum's lower tuning. If the Black Spot Jarrah doesn't get your attention, then the Spotted Gum will.
