Sound Pure's Take

Jarrah has long been one of our favorite timbers from Australia. Its unique sonic properties combined with its rich aesthetic yields a variety of possibilities.

This Jarrah snare drum with Stick Saver hoops is the definition of a workhorse drum. For this beauty, the Metro company used a 12 ply shell without reinforcing rings and finished it with a glass-like gloss  finish.  Jarrah is a myrtle wood species that comes from Australia that is known for its strength and versatility. Being close to 30% harder than maple, its visual and tonal range is similar to bubinga, featuring a strong midrange focus that is dry, rich and warm, with a splash of top-end shimmer. Coupled with the 10 lug configuration bring a soothing warmth that we fell in love with. For drummers that find themselve between the 5.5" and 6.5" shell depth, the 6" shell depth lends itself to articulate ghost notes and solid backbeats without compromising definition or rebound.

From Metro Drums

The Metro ply shell snare is both dynamic and articulate. These drums have the characteristic volume and projection of the best steel shells, but with a warmth and depth that no metal shell can capture. An expressive instrument with an open, lively sound, these ply shell snare drums respond instantly to even the most subtle stickings.
