Turpentine is one of not-so-common timbers from Australia that is rarely seen in production. At a hardness of 86% greater than maple, Turpentine is in a league of its own in terms of the typical tonewood options for drummers. Aesthetically, it looks similar to walnut but its sonic properties take it to another level. Through our testing, we found that great sounds that can be achieved whether it is tuned high or low. The shell is beautifully finished inside and out with 45-degree bearing edges which deliver a clean and precise note. Metro chose to configure this shell with 12 plies of Turpentine without reinforcing rings which have a shell thickness of about 1/4" thick. This snare drum has eight heavy double-ended tube lugs providing a beefier low-fundamental note while the hardness of the wood deliver crisp articulation throughout the tuning ranges. Finishing touches include a Smoked Eucalyptus outer veneer with a glass-like gloss finish to add depth to the vibrant veneer.
