It's great to see an earlier piece from a world renowned luthier that just happens live an hour from our store! We're happy to see that this guitar was really played, so it's a nice, worn-in player's dream. It really is a buttery smooth neck and I found no difficulty in traveling around the fretboard...but prepare to get lost in the fine details!
If a modern McInturff guitar has a hollow chamber in it, that chamber does a specifically designed job as regards the amplified tone. The chamber is never a randomly-dimensioned hollow pocket. This is why the original version of the award-winning Royal represented such a huge step forward for me as an electric guitar designer. The original Royal pioneered the way towards specifically tuned chambers in an electric guitar.
The Royal features a chamber that is tuned to a specific, repeatable resonance... the Royal's chamber influences the guitar's acoustical nature in a planned, predictable way...and so, influences the amplified sound in a planned, predictable way. The benefit to the player is to have a full, rich semi- hollow amplified tone, with an incredibly even response all over the neck; there are no “live” and “dead” spots, such as is the norm for a semi-hollow guitar.
Meet the new Royal... New Voices, New Choices.
Terry McInturff has been building guitars for over 25 years. He is most definitely on the "A" list of boutique solidbody luthiers today. He's built instruments for Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck to name a few. Terry's work is flawless, from his finishes to his impeccable craftsmanship, each one of his instruments is a unique tool that allows the player to most clearly express his or herself.
