What came before Bad Cat? Matchless! This Clubman is a perfect example of why Matchless continues to be one of the best boutique amps on the market. Finding a near mint condition Matchless amp head at a store is rare. Let me tell you about my findings in the world of tone-
The high gain input sounds best with single coil pickups. any strat or tele style guitars just shine with this input. There's a good amount of clean headroom, but as someone who loves a bit o' grit, dialing the gain to about half way for a touch of drive was perfect! This is the type of amp that takes very well to dynamics. light touch for cleans and dig in for the dirt!
The low gain input is for LPs. Well, not just LPs, but that's my preference for a low gain input. Just perfect for a thick single-cut guitar with humbuckers. On many master volume amps with a low gain input, I find there to be a lack of definition, mostly in the lower gain settings. Not the case with this amp! Amazingly clear without any mud. Especially clear when boosting the brilliance and treble a bit more.
I like it through a 2x12 cab. Should sound great through a variety of cabs though. Call or Email Sound Pure to find out if this is the boutique amp you've been dreaming of!

The 35 watt Clubman offers pleasingly complex tones due to its unique, custom pentode preamp section based on two 12AX7s and one EF86 tube. Controls include Volume, Bass, Treble, Brilliance, and Master Volume. Optional Reverb makes this amp truly versatile. A pair of EL34 tubes make up the power section.
